Teacher Apprentice Programs

The Teacher Apprenticeship Program…

Welcome to The NJ Teacher Apprenticeship Program, a dynamic and comprehensive two-year, 4,000-hour initiative dedicated to nurturing the next generation of certified educators. Our program is designed to empower aspiring teachers in various subject areas, including elementary education, middle school, high school subjects, and special education.

A Balanced Approach to Teacher Training

At The NJ Teacher Apprenticeship Program, we believe in a balanced approach to teacher training. Our program seamlessly combines practical classroom experience with related training instruction to equip apprentices with the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to excel in the teaching profession.

Our Collaborative Network

We are proud to coordinate this program in partnership with Learned Potential, an esteemed education organization acting as an intermediary for our apprentices. Additionally, we have established valuable collaborations with educational institutions such as The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) and Mercer County Community College (MCCC) to deliver essential training and support.

Pathways to Success

We recognize that every aspiring educator has a unique journey. That's why we offer multiple pathways to certification. Whether you're interested in elementary education, middle and high school subject areas, or special education, our program allows you to specialize in your chosen field.

Guidance from Experienced Mentors

One of the standout features of The NJ Teacher Apprenticeship Program is our mentorship system. Seasoned and experienced teachers, known as journey workers, serve as mentors to our apprentices. They provide invaluable guidance, mentorship, and practical insights to help apprentices navigate their teaching journey effectively.

Comprehensive Support

We understand that the road to becoming a certified teacher can be challenging. That's why, in addition to journey worker mentors, we provide coaching and support from Learned Potential coaches. This extra layer of support ensures that our apprentices thrive in their on-site placements.

Real-World Experience

Apprentices enrolled in our program have the unique opportunity to work in school districts located in Trenton, Ewing, Hamilton, Lawrenceville, and surrounding areas. These districts have a pressing need for certified teachers, offering apprentices a platform to gain real-world teaching experience.

For All Aspiring Educators

Our program doesn't just cater to those aiming for full-time teaching positions. We also provide pathways to certification for tutors, paraprofessionals, aides, veterans, retirees, and substitutes who aspire to become certified educators.

Addressing Teacher Shortages

The NJ Teacher Apprenticeship Program is dedicated to fostering teacher development and addressing the shortage of certified educators in specific districts. TCNJ and MCCC serve as providers of Related Training Instruction, offering essential educational courses that complement hands-on teaching experience.

A Unique Opportunity

We believe that by combining hands-on experience, mentorship from journey workers, related training instruction from TCNJ, MCCCC, and coaching from Learned Potential, we offer a well-rounded and comprehensive teacher preparation program.

Join the Journey

In conclusion, The NJ Teacher Apprenticeship Program provides a structured and holistic approach to developing certified educators. Our goal is to not only address teacher shortages in specific districts but also prepare apprentices for certification in various subject areas within the field of education.

"It's not just about removing barriers by getting more teachers into the profession; it's also about providing future educators with high-quality preparation to support students effectively."
